PHARMECOR, Eritrea’s Pharmaceutical and Medical Supplies Corporation, is working to meet national medicine and equipment
needs. In the first half of 2025, it imported over $8 million worth of supplies and distributed 351 million Nakfa in medicines and
equipment, with 85% going to Ministry of Health facilities. It also supported local production, including 42 million Nakfa worth of
medication and over 23,000 cubic meters of oxygen. Strict inspections ensure quality, and efforts continue to strengthen healthcare access
across the country.
Ethiopia’s Claims to the Red Sea
During a recent interview in September, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that the Red Sea belonged to Ethiopia 30 years and ago, and that it would be theirs again. Prime Minister Abiy goes on to imply that due to Ethiopia’s size and internal needs, full control of the sea must be retained. The underlying implications of these statements are particularly important as they falsify history and undermine Eritrea’s rights of ownership to its borders and ports.
